South Africa: Hacker Break-Ins Growing. A Johannesburg computer crime
expert said that the computer break-ins on the continent have reached
"crisis levels" and are getting worse. South Africa (SA) is currently
drafting several new laws to outlaw "hacking/cracking" and expects to
try its first computer hacking case in the Pretoria High Court. SA
spokesman John Sterrenberg said the school holidays could soon become a
nightmare as bored youngsters log onto the Internet and hack. The SA
police in Pretoria estimate a loss of $3.7 billion due to computer crime
committed by South African-based organized crime syndicates.
