Our Bootable CD and Bootable Super CD have had some astonishing effects on productivity for those who use it. Here are some recent results we have gotten back from the field.
Rapid Deployment: For rapid deployment of LANs, nothing can touch our Bootable CD. In one case a single person on a customer site deployed over 100 systems in a few hours. For classes on the road - for conference networks - for throwing up a quick firewall - our Bootable CD deploys faster than anything you can find.
Testing Configurations: Network configuration testing has become so complex that you need a standard install on computers to be able to differentiate setup problems on the hosts from setup problems with the network. In laboratories where you do lots of product testing, nothing compares to the Bootable Super CD for popping up a test LAN in a matter of minutes. One customer threw up three testbeds, each involving about 7 computers in 4 LANs in an average of under 1 hour each. The savings in setup time for new experiments paid for the cost of our Bootable CDs in a day.
Road Warrior: On the road, the Bootable Super CD has saved many of our customers time and effort. You see all sorts of different setups, and you can never tell what will work and what won't when it comes to getting to your email, getting to your sites, and reaching back into your infrastructure. With the Bootable CD, you simply boot whatever computer they have using your CD, and you have your standard operating environment - good to go. Some of our users have taken to bringing only the CD instead of a laptop on short trips. Our Bootable CD is all they need.
Save a Trip: Recently, more and more maintenenace cases have cropped up where the Bootable Super CD saved a road trip. Two quick examples: In one case a 5 hour road trip was avoided when a Bootable CD in the area of the remote site was borrowed from a customer to do an emergency repair. The system was up and running in 45 minutes, and a whole day of wasted driving, meals, and productivity was gained. In another case, a trip across the country was saved by a Bootable CD on hand and the email of a binary file uu-encoded. Two days of grueling air travel for an hour on the ground was saved because our Bootable CD allowed the job to be done from afar.
Rapid Diagnosis: One customer had a problem with a firewall that didn't work right. After days of finger pointing, they booted from a Bootable Super CD and recorded all of the packets from all sides of the firewall as the problem was occuring. The recording was emailed back for testing, the problem was identified and diagnosed, and the solution was electronically returned by the next day. our Bootable CD made rapid targeted data collection an easy matter and helped to solve a problem that could have taken weeks.
