Y2K czar calls for computer security funding
Y2K repair efforts have magnified the need for further
government computer security efforts that should be
federally funded, Y2K czar John Koskinen said Friday.
"We have to continue to reinforce the importance of the
issue," he said at a Federal Reserve Board workshop on
computer security.

NSA: 'We Won't Spy on You'
The National Security Agency, which uses spy satellites and
foreign listening posts to monitor threats to US security,
denied on Monday that it intended to begin spying on Americans
at home. Newsweek magazine in its Dec. 13 issue said the NSA
was drafting a memorandum of understanding to clarify ways in
which it could help the FBI track terrorists and criminals in
the United States.

Nt 4.0 wins C2 security rating
As Microsoft Corp. closes in on completing development of its
next-generation Windows 2000 operating system, it finally has
managed to receive the elusive C2 security rating for NT 4.0.
On Dec. 2, Microsoft announced it had received the C2 rating
for NT 4.0 Server and Workstation. Prior to last Friday,
Microsoft had received the C2 rating only for NT 3.5.
