Get ready: Network security experts at Carnegie Mellon University's CERT Coordination Center say that within days Web sites may come under attack by two powerful, elusive intruder programs that bombard sites and servers with denial-of-service messages. http://www.cnnfn.com/news/technology/newsbytes/141234.html

Hackers Will Be Out in Full Force On New Year's Eve Many IT decision makers will be waiting in angst to see what forays will transpire on the eve of the new millenium in regards to Y2K computer glitches. At this same time, hackers will be out in full-force concocting what could turn into the biggest hackfest we've seen yet. While CIOs, IT directors, and network administrators, get ulcers over Y2K, computer snafus much more serious than Y2K will be complicating an already precarious and unknown outcome as hackers use the Y2K opportunity as a cover for unsavory non-Y2K related hack sessions. http://www.technologyevaluation.com/news_analysis/12-99/NA_ST_LPT_12_22_99_1.htm?

Pentagon issues final Y2K alert to commanders
With just eight days left before the long-awaited Year
2000 date change, the Defense Department has issued a final alert to local commanders to ensure that they are prepared and has advised units overseas to be prepared for local disruptions, opportunistic computer network attacks and attacks by hostile forces. In a message sent on Dec. 16, Secretary of Defense William Cohen placed all commands overseas at alert posture Level Three, which indicates that local Year 2000-related disruptions are possible, as are requests for assistance by local civilian authorities, computer attacks and violence. http://www.fcw.com/pubs/fcw/1999/1220/web-dodalert-12-23-99.html
