Air Force to close some Web sites
Fearing attacks by computer hackers, some Air Force
bases plan to block access to their public World Wide
Web sites over the New Year's weekend, officials say.
Others bases have been asked to consider closing down
their sites temporarily. ``Each one of the Web masters
were told they might want to consider any
vulnerabilities,'' Maj. John Anderson, an Air Force
spokesman at the Pentagon, said Monday. For some, he
said, that means blocking access at a prime time for
Internet pranks.

people to serve on an advisory committee to evaluate
computer industry efforts and help define security
standards for giving consumers access to the
information that has been gathered about them. You

Y2K To Be Noticeable But Not Catastrophic - Gartner

members of the Gartner Group Inc., a leading global
technology advisor, expressed their final predictions
for the New Year's weekend, and beyond. Matt Hotle,
Gartner Group vice president and research director,
addressed the issues of what various organizations
would be doing now, and over the next few days, to
prepare for Y2K.
