 I agree, Glenn.  

Given the interconnectedness of the world these days, the loosing of such
"pseudo-biological agents" (i.e. viruses et al), on the various electronic
thorough-fares would very likely follow the same pattern as the so-called
"weapons of mass destruction":  once out, it no longer controllable, and
will go anywhere the electron winds blow it.

The imagined effects of the Y2K bug could pale drastically in comparison.  I
too hope it is only an "I dare you..." story.
