Your point is well taken.

Perhaps I find it traditional to apply the term "warfare" specifically
to conflict between nations. To the degree that corporations represent
power surpassing many nations, the concept of "nationality" as a measure
of boundary between forces has become less than accurate.

My point about monetary goals was that, to the degree that corporations
become "political players", they do so (largely) with the goal to gain
greater revenue. For them (by my definition) politics is a means to a
financial end.

I contrast this motivation (at least, philosophically) with that of
legitimate political institutions, for whom monetary gains are a means
of securing the welfare and freedoms of the citizens, but is secondary
to the actual ends, the overall well-being of the people represented.

Of course, when a government fails (sufficiently) to secure the welfare
of its people, it will either change course (else risk losing its "labor"
resource) or the people will find a way to exert their will to survive
despite the wishes of the "governing body". This may occur both when a
"legitimate" government is usurped by a "criminal" force or vice-versa,
which begs the question "what is a legitimate force, but that which is
currently in power."

How does one define "conflict" and "stability" when boundaries have only
relative levels of legitimacy?

Regards,
