The Israeli National Security Council supports the establishment of a national authority to protect computerized systems

As reported yesterday (25.9.00) all over the e-media over ISRAEL (T.V., Newspapers, Internet), the Israeli National Security Council supports the establishment of a national authority to protect computerized systems. The new authority will not come into being out of thin air: The intention is to ground it in the Shin Bet security service's unit for the protection of information. The team that formulated the proposal to set up the new national authority is led by Gideon Shefer, the acting head of the Israeli National Security Council, which coordinated the state's activity in connection with the Year 2000 computer bug. Although that particular threat turned out to be less acute than the doomsayers had predicted, that is no guarantee that another disaster, a "computerized Pearl Harbor" in an American version or a "Yom Kippur attack" in an Israeli version, will not occur. More info can be found at : http://www3.haaretz.co.il/eng/htmls/kat2_4.htm.
