Web site for pro-Israel group raided, vandalized
The Web site for the American Israel Public Affairs
Committee, a lobbying group, was defaced Wednesday
with anti-Israeli commentary -- an increasingly
common occurrence as the escalating conflict
between Israelis and Palestinians has spilled over
into cyberspace. But this time the intruders also
downloaded some 3,500 e-mail addresses and 700
credit card numbers from the site, sent anti-Israeli
diatribes to the mailing list and published the
credit-card data on the Internet. ``This hack is
to protest against the atrocities in Palestine by
the barbarian Israeli soldiers and their constant
support by the U.S. government,'' said a manifesto
that the attackers put in place of the lobbying
group's home page.

Malaysian Government Site Spreads Anti-Mahathir Virus
Malaysia's national budget speech, available online
at a government Web site, is infected with a virus
that may overwrite Microsoft Word documents and add
in rude comments against Prime Minister Mahathir
Mohamad. Local virus expert Looi Hoong Thoong
confirmed that the document at the official
Finance Ministry Web site is infected by the
Hampehs virus, believed to be of local origin.

'Hacktivism' is growing threat to business, consultants say
Computer hackers with political agendas have become
a fast-growing threat to big companies worldwide, a
corporate intelligence company said Thursday. ``The
methods they are using are in their infancy,'' said
Kent Anderson of Control Risks Group, an international
business risk consultancy. The political cyber threat
was highlighted along with those on the ground at a
roll-out of the British-based company's ''Risk Map
2001,'' an annual survey of perceived dangers to
corporate clients.
