Schoolboys spark Bush security threat
Two British schoolboys sparked an international
anti-terrorist operation involving the CIA and
Special Branch officers after sending a joke
email to the White House threatening to
assassinate the new US president George W Bush.
The spoof death threat, sent to the official
White House website, was intercepted by the
Central Intelligence Agency, which together
with Britain's Special Branch tracked them down
within days to Blake High School in Cannock,
Staffordshire.

Hackers suspected of stealing secured data on thousands
of world, corporate leaders
Hackers appear to have stolen data on thousands
of world and business leaders, including former
President Clinton, organizers of the World Economic
Forum said Monday. The weekly SonntagsZeitung of
Zurich reported Sunday that hackers have produced
a CD-ROM containing secured information on 27,000
people who have attended the global forum in recent
years, including Clinton, former Secretary of State
Madeleine Albright and Microsoft founder Bill Gates.
Lawyers for the World Economic Forum, held annually
in Davos, Switzerland, were filing for an injunction
to stop further dissemination of the data, the forum's
chief spokesman, Charles McLean, said Monday. The
perpetrators are unknown. ``We regard this as a serious
crime, not as a prank,'' he said.

Hackers obliterate egypt central bank Web site
Computer hackers have obliterated the Web site of
the Egyptian central bank. The cyber attack was
launched on Friday morning, Ayman el-Sayed, the
central bank's webmaster, told Reuters on Monday.
``We are now implementing security measures to
avoid this happening in the future,'' he said.
The Web site (www.cbe.org.eg) -- which usually
features billowing Egyptian flags and an old,
sepia photograph of the bank -- is now all in
black, with red text in Portuguese including
several Brazilian Internet addresses. ``Hahahahha
and you still say Brazilians are stupid...'' says
part of the triumphant hackers' message.

Tasmanian Govt web site apparently attacked by hackers
It appears the Tasmanian Government website has
been the target of computer hackers. Taking credit
for the raid is a group named "Insanity Zine Corp".
The group has posted unauthorised messages on the
front page of the website. The group also claims
to have hacked into the Australian Government
website for the second time. A fortnight ago
hackers attacked government websites in the
United States, Britain and Australia.

Hackers poised to land at wireless AirPort
A group of respected security researchers has found
vulnerabilities in one of the most popular data
networking technologies that could expose corporate
computer networks to eavesdropping and unauthorized
access. The group, which includes a computer-science
professor at the University of California at Berkeley,
a recent graduate and a current computer-science
student, discovered the weaknesses in the so-called
Wired Equivalent Privacy algorithm, or WEP. The
security measure is employed in the wildly popular
802.11b wireless networking technologies that allow
people to connect to networks using simple radio
antennas in their laptop or desktop PCs.

Famed Hacker Unmasked as Force Behind UrbanExpose.com
The mysterious Crispus Attucks -- the anonymous voice
behind Urban Expose -- has been finally unmasked.
Crispus Attucks is John Lee. When Attucks, the man
behind the renegade UrbanExpose.com Web site,
revealed his identity this morning on NBC's
"Today in New York" show, viewers saw the face
of John Lee, the famed Masters of Deception (MOD)
hacker who served jail time in 1994 for illegal
computer intrusion. Brooklyn-based UrbanExpose.com
publishes commentary and piles insult on the
executives that run "urban" Internet companies.
The site is relentless in attacks of perceived
excesses of dot-com executives and has become a
hunting ground for anyone interested in underground
information on that segment of the industry.
