Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Hi all, a little bleary eyed from watching the events unwrapping in the US. A few thoughts on the IW aspect of these attacks. 1) A number of reporters have commented on the use of conventional terrorist methods in these attacks (as compared to the planned for/possible biological or nuclear attacks) Taking this a step further, I wonder on the consequences if some major power plants/communications facilities had also been targeted? (similar to the US take down of a number of power plants in the Gulf war) The ability to communicate, use vital equipment etc could be seriously restricted or denied. 2) It will be interesting to see the effects on the US economy and other financial aspects (price of petrol, stocks, etc) , and various other flow on effects from these incidents, eg. companies based in WTC, did they have backup/disaster systems or recovery procedures for their IT systems, what has happened to their management/infrastructure, etc. 3) The impact and effect of the media. The instantaneous and worlwide coverage of the events (we've been watching some of the amateur videos over the internet) gives the terrorists a much wider profile and psychological impact than would have been possible years ago.
