Authorities Report Electrical Problems As Cause of Explosion and Fire

Hartford, CT (EmergencyNet News) -- According to an Associated Press report,
the cause of an explosion and at the Hartford Civic Center, was "an
electrical problem." The resulting fire causing thick, black smoke to engulf
much of downtown Hartford during rush hour. Flames were visible from part of
the complex, which includes a sports arena, offices and retail space.
There were no reports of injuries. Hartford  Police Lt. Brian Heavren said
it appeared the fire began in one or two electric transformers, located
underground just in front of the Civic Center. Heavren stressed there were
no signs of terrorist activity or other foul play.
