The whole world and the Palestinians, as victims of the Zionist terror, were shocked at the scope of the tragedy that afflicted the US. However, the feelings of sympathy we felt towards the victims and their families were accompanied by a number of serious questions: Why was the US targeted? Will the US reconsider its practices against the countries of the world? Will the US government apply a policy of vengeance against those who disagreed with it or those who would disagree with it in the future? Will the human tragedy allow for the return of a much more humane democracy that does not fight terrorism with terrorism? These legitimate concerns should not be brushed aside by the hypocritical positions taken by some countries to appease the US- a country that does not respect human rights or international legality. It still sponsors the Zionist terror against our people and kills civilians in Iraq. Sharon thought he could abuse the tragedy by likening the Intifada to the terrorist attack against the US. The US Administration, however, urged him to show restrain to allow for the formation of an international alliance against terrorism that includes some indispensable Arab and Muslim countries. Many of these countries distanced themselves from the criminal act; they offered their condolences, condemned the act, and expressed their readiness to support the US in its fight against terrorism. It became obvious that the US Administration was planning to impose its hegemony on the world as a limitless tyranny, especially after it called its operation to combat terrorism ‘infinite justice’. The USA administration realized that counties that showed support after the terrorist attack started to think of their own interests before agreeing to participate in the alliance against terrorism. Arab counties seem to have reached a unified position as to the nature of their role within the US-led alliance. A genuine definition of terrorism is essential in determining that role. Any definition of this kind should distinguish between the legitimate right of any people to liberate their occupied land, on the one hand, and state terrorism that violates human rights recognized in UN resolutions, on the other hand. The US administration exerted pressure on Sharon to return him to the negotiating table on the basis of Mitchell’s report that calls for a ceasefire, some confidence building measures and the implementation of UN resolutions. But Sharon knows quite well that sitting at the negotiating table means an end to settlement construction and all the justifications used including that of natural growth. This is in line with the US position that considers settlements illegal and an obstacle to peace as James Baker stated before the Madrid Conference. However, Sharon has no genuine regard for the peace process; he believes that Palestinians are not entitled to any piece of land of what he and other racists in Israel call ‘Greater Israel’. Therefore, any positive response to any peace proposals will endanger his government. Ze’evi and Liberman, for example, neither believes in Mitchell’s report or even in the right of Peres to meet President Arafat. The US pressure on Sharon made him tactically agree to the meeting but at the same time he spared no efforts to blow up any positive results. Israeli intensive aggression during and after the meeting elicited some revengeful reaction that Israel as usual blames on the PNA. In addition, Israel wants the PNA to apprehend some of the Intifada activists while Israeli army officers pride themselves on the number of Palestinians they killed. Instead of cooperating with the PNA to create a much more positive atmosphere by reducing the level of tension in the area, Israeli officials prefer to drive a wedge between the PNA and the Opposition by asking the PNA to arrest Palestinian activists. The PNA cannot and will not play the role of a police force whose basic task is to ensure the safety of Israel that continues to build settlements. The PNA has done its utmost to prevent any attacks from territories it controls especially against civilians. The PNA will continue to coordinate with the National and Islamic Forces regarding the nature, timing and location of any operation. Palestinians like neither to suffer nor to return to a deceitful negotiating process. They want to end the Zionist terror that is represented in the following: The Israel military occupation of the 1967- occupied territories in contradiction with UN Resolutions 242 & 338. According to the Oslo Accord, these territories were supposed to be handed back before May 4,1999. Sharon’s government has, however, started to reoccupy some of the liberated territories. The construction of settlements on confiscated land after driving out the Palestinian owners as a form of ethnic cleansing. Sharon’s government continues to build settlements although it is verbally committed to Mitchell’s report. The continued attacks against Muslim and Christian holy places in Jerusalem, a city that according to U.N.resolution 252 is an integral part of the occupied territories. Zionist racists continue to use what they call the cornerstone of the temple to frighten off all lovers of peace. The violation of UN Resolution 194 that calls for the return of all refugees who were driven out of their land. The terrorist practices carried out against Palestinians through assassination and closure. Unlike the terrorist attacks against the US, these terror-generating violations are committed by a clearly specified source, the successive governments of Israel. Will priority be given to a long-term war against terrorism? If so, will the Palestinian issue occupy a second place, or even be frozen until further notice? Nobody can rely on promises made by the US whose Middle East policies are governed by the Zionist lobby. The current situation is different from the previous one, and the international alliance being sought by the US will base its definition of terrorism on international legality and will accordingly specify ways of dealing with it. Although it is the only super power, the US cannot impose its views on the international community. Countries have their own interests to look after. After all, the US is seeking to impose its hegemony on the world. Choosing Afghanistan as its first target runs against the interests of two regional powers, Iran and Russia. What matters to us is the effective role Arab and Muslim countries will play in directing international efforts towards achieving freedom and justice for the whole world. These efforts should start here in Palestine and particularly in Jerusalem, the key to peace and stability all over the world. Ending the US-sponsored Zionist terrorism will terminate world terrorism. We, Arabs and Muslims, made up our minds to put an end to Zionist terror in order to bring peace. Revolution until victory. ------------------ http://all.net/ Your use of Yahoo! Groups is subject to http://docs.yahoo.com/info/terms/
