Deputy Interior Minister Prince Ahmed bin Abdul Aziz said Sunday that bin Laden ``is not involved in any explosions in the kingdom.'' Bin Laden, an exiled Saudi dissident living in Afghanistan, is the prime suspect in the Sept. 11 terror attacks on the United States. In the past year, Saudi Arabia has been rocked by a series of small bombings targeting foreigners, including one on Oct. 6 that killed one American and another still unidentified man. One American, a Briton and two Filipinos were injured in the bombing in the eastern city of Khobar. In 1996, 19 U.S. servicemen were killed when members of the dissident Saudi Hezbollah group bombed the Khobar Towers complex in Dhahran, near Khobar. U.S. prosecutors have indicted 14 people in that case. Days after the Oct. 6 Khobar bombing, Interior Minister Prince Nayef was quoted as saying that he could not rule out a link between the bombing and the attacks in the United States. Ahmed, during a news conference, also discussed the events leading up to the kingdom's decision to revoke bin Laden's Saudi citizenship. ``Osama bin Laden, as is known, was asked to return to the kingdom when he was in Sudan because it was found that his views were unsound and he was surrounded by unworthy people,'' Ahmed said. Because bin Laden refused to return to Saudi Arabia, the government revoked his citizenship. On Sunday, U.S. Sen. John McCain accused Saudi Arabia of doing too little to fight terrorism. Speaking on CNN's ``Late Edition,'' he said Saudi authorities were not doing ``what the president asked all countries to do, and that is to take sides.'' Saudi Arabia was home to at least half of the suicide hijackers and is believed to house many more suspects. But the interior minister has said Saudi authorities have been unable to establish any links between bank accounts in the kingdom and bin Laden. ------------------ http://all.net/ Your use of Yahoo!
