[Analysts Note: I have addressed the hypocritical, Muslim approach to
Ramadhan and now we should consider halting all aid to Egypt. The two
billion dollars/year the U.S. hands Egypt was given as a reward by
Congress for the original Camp David Agreements when Egypt agreed to
halt all belicose actions and statements directed at Israel. This past
year Egypt has broken these agreements and warned of attacking Israel in
its knee jerk support of the Intifada. This money, money is fungible,
would be better served in funding prescription Medicaire drugs for
seniors, American seniors. ]

                  Egypt Critical of U.S. Airstrikes
The Associated Press, Sat 27 Oct 2001
CAIRO, Egypt (AP) — The United States would have more support in the
Muslim world if it had sought U.N. approval for its military campaign
in Afghanistan, a top aide to Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said
Saturday.
Osama el-Baz said the United States would be well advised to end its
strikes against the Taliban regime and the al-Qaida terrorist network
as soon as possible, and make a 100 percent effort to avoid hitting
civilians.
America should also stop its campaign during Ramadan, Islam's holiest
month and a time when Muslims feel closest to God and their faith,
el-Baz told reporters. Ramadan begins in mid-November.
Continuing to bomb Afghanistan at current levels during Ramadan would
be an ``affront'' to Muslims everywhere, he said.
However, when asked about possibly suspending the strikes, Defense
Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld on Monday stressed the urgency of
stopping the terrorists before they strike again.
Al-Qaida and its leader Osama bin Laden are prime suspects in the
Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on New York and Washington. The U.S.-led
strikes began Oct. 7 after the Taliban refused to hand bin Laden over
to the United States.
El-Baz has been Mubarak's political adviser since the Egyptian
president took office in 1981. Egypt has since emerged as one of
Washington's closest and most reliable Arab allies.
Egypt, which battled its own Muslim insurgency in the 1990s, was
providing information to the United States to help in the pursuit of
those behind last month's attacks, el-Baz said. Several of al-Qaida's
senior members are Egyptians.
``We were not asked to contribute to any military action,'' he said.
While emphasizing the United States' right to retaliate, el-Baz said
there would have been less opposition in the Islamic world to the
strikes if Washington had first sought approval from the United
Nations.
He said there was a need for convening a global conference on
terrorism under U.N. auspices to draw up ``general rules'' for dealing
with terrorist acts wherever they may occur.
