Most wanted weaves her web
By Georgia Williams, Daily Telegraph, 11/14/2001
<a href="http://www.dailytelegraph.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5936,3243981%255E703,00.html">http://www.dailytelegraph.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5936,3243981%255E703,00.html>

A FORMER private schoolgirl described as Britain's most wanted woman has
set up a website to taunt British police who are hunting her.

Conservative councillor's daughter Fiona Mont, 30, fled two years ago
after being released on bail following her arrest in connection with a
$900,000 computer fraud.

A huge search-and-rescue operation was launched after she planted
evidence suggesting that she had flung herself from the 150m cliffs in
Sussex.

Mont tried to stage her own suicide but the ploy was discovered two days
later when she telephoned her mother, Joan, the former leader of East
Sussex County Council.

Ms Mont was last seen in December, 1999 leaving Shoreham Airport, near
Brighton, in a light plane piloted by convicted drug dealer Graham "the
Baron" Hesketh - also wanted in connection with the fraud.
The pair are believed to have travelled around the US and Europe, and
returned several times to Britain, always keeping one step ahead of the
law.

The last straw for frustrated police is a website, the-baron.50megs.com.

It describes Ms Mont as "a brunette beauty" featured on British TV's
Crimewatch and Britain's Most Wanted.

"She is a master of disguise," it adds. "Nicknamed 'The Cat' because of
her ability to keep ahead of detectives, Mont has proved expert at
evading capture."

"Police say that, using seduction and charm, she has become one of the
most sophisticated and cunning fugitives they have encountered."

The website, whose geographical origin should be possible to trace,
brags about how Ms Mont constantly evaded the long arm of the law and
made Interpol look foolish by giving them the slip, too.

It includes cuttings from national and regional newspapers and extracts
from a supposed book based on her life called Obviously Someone Has Got
A Sense Of Humour, described as being her and Hesketh's love story, "a
story of outlaws in love".

The website claims readers of the book will be sucked into a world of
crime, police corruption and intimidation, smuggling, daring aviation
escapades an hilarious roller coaster comedy of betrayal, passion, love,
jealousy, revenge and criminal genius.

It concludes by offering for sale a selection of top quality recent
photographs of the fugitives.

Mont, who was expelled from her $21,000-a-year public school, St Marys
Hall in Brighton, met 40-year-old Hesketh when he was running a flying
school in Shoreham.

The closest police came to catching them was a year ago, when they
received a tip that the couple were in Emmalorde in Holland, but by the
time officers arrived they had vanished.

Detective Constable Steve Pincott said he would be surprised if the
website was a hoax.

"It's exactly the type of thing she would do to keep her in the
limelight. If she didn't create it herself, I would bet she was
involved.

"She's a very cocky girl and she loves being the centre of attention.
I'm sure this website has been set up to make sure people don't forget
about her. The more it's kept alive the more it feeds her fantasy.

"Having dealt with her, I can say she is very personable and charming
and probably good at getting what she wants.

"But it would be nice to get her in front of a judge and jury to see how
she reacts to being the centre of attention then."
