I would find it very hard to produce an automobile, from scratch, in my garage. If I succeeded, I might be able to skirt the law for awhile and putter down the highways, but G.M. et al have little to fear that they may suddenly have to compete with several million freeware tony-mobiles. In contrast, I CAN produce various software utilities "in my garage", and make them freely available to the public, a million copies at little additional effort. If legislation succeeds at imposing strict product-liability burdens on major software manufacturers, I have to wonder what they may demand in return, what "follow-on" legislation might seem reasonable. In the future, will I need a "license to compile"? ____tony____ Tony Bartoletti 925-422-3881 <azb@llnl.gov> Information Operations and Assurance Center Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Livermore, CA 94551-9900 ------------------------ Yahoo!
