And now RVP respondeth as herunder: Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda used to use crypto and stegano initially, but stopped using them in Aug 1998, just at the same time as Osama stopped using his phones. Al Qaida realized that an encrypted message stood out like a sore thumb in a flood of unencrypted messages, and drew attention to itself. Therefore they started using throwaway Hotmail and Yahoo accounts, and used plaintext code words, without any encryption whatsoever. But prior to Aug 1998, they used both crypto and stegano until some of their guys were caught in Algeria. However, pan-Islamic groups such as Ikhwan al Muslimoon, Jamaat Islami, Hizb-ut-Tahrir, Khilafah, Izz al-Din Al-Kassam and Nida’ul Islam have been using strong encryption and steganography for the last few years. They trained groups operating in Kashmir such as Lashkar e Taiba, Hizbull Mujahideen, al Barq, etc. in crypto and stegano. Ravi Visvesvaraya Prasad ------------------------ Yahoo!
