This story originated in May 2002 in the Austrian tabloid _Die
Kronenzeitung_. Rather strangely, it was broadcast throughout the
German speaking Web after it was picked up by Deutsche Presse Agentur at
the end of May.

By early June 2002, other German language media sources somewhat more
reliable than the original tabloid -- Telepolis, Austria's FutureZone,
the Swiss 20min.ch -- had already declared it a hoax after doing a
little bit of checking around.

Somewhat humorous that it's now being mailed around in English language
lists as a real news item. Or is it an experiment in disinformation,
perhaps?
