In the psychology and deception literature this is called controlling
the focus of attention. It is a fundamental part of deception and the
reason I asked members to participate is that I hope that by doing so we
can help to refocus ourselves while learning more about the tactic and
seeing a clear demonstration of how it is used and countered.
