NIST Drafts Security Controls for Computer Systems

December 16, 2003 - The National Institute of Standards and Technology
(NIST) recently issued Special Publication 800-53, Recommended Security
Controls For Federal Information Systems, to address security issues for
computer systems. The draft report details controls that the government will
require in 2005 and is expected to influence security, management and
technical safeguards to be used by other governments and business. Congress
required NIST to develop these controls as part of the Federal Information
Security Management Act of 2002. Public comment is being solicited through
February 2004.
