Interestingly, while attitudes may or may not have changed, bay area
media is starting to report only positive things about added security -
even at the price of profiling and reduction in freedoms.  Many
buildings have been evacuated on bomb threats that would normally not be
treated seriously, with the side effect of increased fear and increased
desire for security at the cost of freedom.

This is not good...
