CBI Warns of Cybercrime Threat to E-Businesses
Information Security News, 9/17/2001
<a href="http://www.infosecnews.com/sgold/news/2001/09/11_01.htm">http://www.infosecnews.com/sgold/news/2001/09/11_01.htm>

The Confederation of British Industry (CBI), in conjunction with a group
of other companies, has issued a report warning of the growing problem
of cybercrime and e-business.

The survey was produced in collaboration with the Fraud Advisory Panel,
PricewaterhouseCoopers, ArmorGroup and The Nottingham Trent University
International Fraud Prevention Research Centre and took in responses
from 148 of CBI's 2,000-odd member companies. Research for the survey
found that around two-thirds of the respondent organizations had
experienced a cybercrime incident in the preceding 12 months.
(Infosecurity News notes that the definition of an incident includes a
virus or worm occurrence on an organization's computer system, which
could inflate the figures.)

Researchers found that companies were more confident about the security
procedures for conducting business-to-business (B2B) transactions over
the Internet than they were about business-to-consumer (B2C)
transactions. Researchers also found that around 53 percent of the
respondents regarded the Internet as being a safe place to conduct B2B
transactions, although only 32 percent regarded it as safe for B2C
transactions.
