THE ROOT CAUSE OF ANTI-US ISLAMIC TERRORISM

1.  ISLAMIC TERRORISM - AN ENDEMIC MIDEAST ELEMENT OF THE LAST 13
CENTURIES.  Other than Turkey, all Islamic regimes have ascended to
power through violence, tolerating no challenge to their supremacy. 
They terrorize those whom they cannot integrate.  Regimes which exploit
terrorism to subdue domestic opposition, will certainly employ that
instrument against external opposition.  They have transformed the abuse
of human rights and domestic brutality into endemic elements of internal
politics.  One should not separate domestic, from international,
terrorism - two natural byproducts of inter-Muslim politics. 

2. TERRORIST STATES DEFINE THE US AS THE KEY STRATEGIC OPPONENT. No US

pressure on Israel would spare Washington the wrath of Iraq, Iran,
Syria, Libya and other radical Muslim countries.  They are determined to
push the US out of the Persian Gulf, the Mideast, the Indian Ocean and
Africa.  Their territorial aspirations have suffered a severe setback by
US military,

economic and diplomatic dominance.  The US denied Iran a historic
victory over Iraq, and has slowed down the exportation of Iran's Islamic
revolution.  The US freed Kuwait from Iraqi occupation, and has
prevented the conquest of Saudi Arabia and the small Gulf sheikhdoms by
Iraq and Iran.  US strategic commitment to Turkey and Jordan has
minimized Syrian hopes to reclaim the Hatay/Alexandreta region in Turkey
and to topple the Hashemite regime of Jordan (its “southern province”). 
And, Libyan plans to agitate the Mideast and Africa have been shelved
due to US deterrence.  For most Muslim Mideast regimes, the US has been
"the Great Satan," assisted by Israel, its loyal "Mideast Outpost." A
defeat of a Super Power would be critical to the resurrection of Islamic
grandeur. 

3.  NOTWITHSTANDING ISRAEL's EXISTENCE OR POLICIES, MOST MOSLEM REGIMES
REJECT WESTERN DEMOCRACIES AND, ESPECIALLY, THE LEADER OF THE FREE
WORLD,

for professing "inherently evil values." Free minds, free markets and
freedom of religion, which scare Islamic regimes, have been the
trademark of the US.  The US has replaced Christian Europe as the “chief
enemy.” Anti-US sentiments have been nurtured by skillful Mideast
despots, scapegoting the US in order to divert attention away from
disruptive consequences of social, economic and political dislocation. 
They have blamed the US for the collapse of the "Arab in Oil-Land
Dreams." Islamic clergies have been particularly alarmed by US military
and cultural presence on Saudi soil, adjacent to the holy sites of Mecca
and Medina. 

4. THE OVERLOOKING OF THE ROOT CAUSE OF ANTI-US ISLAMIC TERRORISM

has failed policy-makers, wishing to avoid difficult - but inevitable -
decisions.  It was responsible for the lack of effective US military
response to anti-US terrorism in Aden (2000), Kenya&amp;Tanzania (1998),
Saudi Arabia (1995/6) and to Saddam’s challenges since 1991.  It was
reflected through the US courting Khomeini and Bin-Laden during their
initial days, the intense US-Saddam cooperation until Iraq's invasion of
Kuwait, the Green Light provided by the US for the Syrian Rape of
Lebanon (1990), and for US foreign aid extended to the PLO since 1994. 
It may be responsible for an immoral and strategically-flawed US
invitation to the PLO, Syria and Iran - three leaders of global
terrorism - to join the Counter Terrorism Coalition.
