The crowd attacked the building with stones and clubs and broke some windows before police brought them under control, they said. They shouted ``death to Pakistan'' and ``death to America,'' the witnesses said, adding that the situation was still tense. The crowd were protesting against Pakistan's support for the U.S.-led strikes on Afghanistan to back U.S. demands that the ruling Taliban hand over Saudi-born dissident Osama bin Laden (news - web sites), whom it has sheltered since the mid-1990s. Washington says it has evidence that bin Laden masterminded the September 11 attacks in the United States by suicide squads using hijacked airliners. Pakistan has promised to help Washington by sharing intelligence, providing unspecified logistical support and allowing the United States the use of its airspace. U.S. warplanes have bombarded Afghanistan for five successive nights, and Washington says they have wrecked training camps, destroyed air defenses and disrupted communications. Iran strongly condemned the suicide attacks in the United States but opposed the U.S. retaliatory strikes on Afghanistan, calling for a U.N.-led coalition to fight international terrorism. ------------------------ Yahoo!
