The question is being raised by many in Bahrain following a front page report in the Bahrain Arabic language daily Akhbar Al Khaleej yesterday. Citing informed sources, the Akhbar Al Khaleej said: "Many Israelis were spotted in the conference hall during the emergency meeting of the OIC foreign ministers in Doha this week to discuss the U.S.-led military strikes on Afghanistan. On seeing their presence in the hall, some delegates are understood to have left the meeting in an apparent sign of protest. Many in Bahrain are asking: "How did the Israelis come there and what were they doing there? Moreover, how did they get visas to attend such an important gathering of Muslims?" "Does it mean that the Israelis are still in Doha, although the Qatar government announced, on the eve of the OIC summit in November last year, that the trade mission was shut and the Israelis officials were not there any more?" they queried. Qatar is one of the two GCC countries to have an Israeli presence with the establishment of a trade mission in Doha when the political atmosphere began to show some positive signs in the aftermath of the Oslo Agreement between the Israelis and the Palestinians. But things changed dramatically since September 28 last year, following the Al Aqsa Intifada, and Qatar was under pressure to close down the Israeli trade mission as a mark of protest against the aggressive Israeli policies towards the Palestinians. With both Saudi Arabia and Iran threatening to boycott the November OIC summit, Qatar shut down the Israeli trade mission on the eve of the summit. Thus the summit was rescued. Since then there have been frequent reports that the Israeli mission had, in fact, not been closed down and an announcement to the contrary was made to save the OIC summit. ------------------ http://all.net/ Your use of Yahoo!
