For more information about this summary and to see corresponding graphs, please visit the Matrix.Net Web site at <a href="http://www.matrix.net/ea/advisories/">http://www.matrix.net/ea/advisories/>. ---------------------------------------------------------------- 11 October 2001 The JANET network in London and the colt.net network in Germany experienced sudden performance degradation to sites in China. Both networks share nodes that handle traffic to China through New York City (alter.net). This event lasted approximately an hour. Users of this path experienced an average .2 seconds increase in latency. 8 October 2001 The military operations in the Middle East have prompted Internet performance changes across many West Asian states. The rates of throughput in many of the states around Afghanistan now show variable fluctuation during any 24 hour period. At the beginning of military operations, Kazakhstan experienced drops in latency, as alternate bandwidth became available. Many Saudi Arabian hosts have become unreachable; gateways allow traffic, but beyond the gateways, low-priority traffic disappears. Pakistani hosts have experienced high levels of packet loss and variability in latency. While transmissions have increased, no significant bandwidth appears to have been added to accommodate the traffic changes. Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan both are experiencing performance declines, but this may be due in part to the high traffic through the gateway to Russia that many of the republics share. Latency times from Kyrgyzstan to Russia and Kazakhstan to Russia leap from the 100ms range on the Russian side to over 1000+ ms range at the republics. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Contact <a href="mailto:solutions@matrix.net?Subject=Re:%20(ai)%20[Fwd:%20[Fwd:%20Matrix.Net%20Internet%20Event%20Advisory%20Weekly%20Summary%20for%2012%20%20October%202001]]%2526In-Reply-To=%2526lt;3BC79B77.C2A2FE76@speconsult.com">solutions@matrix.net< /a> for more information about Matrix Insight or to schedule a product demonstration.
