"An envelope containing the powder was intercepted. All precautionary measures are being taken," a security official at the National Assembly told Reuters, adding police and rescue services had been notified. The official said only the mailroom and an adjoining entrance to the Assembly building had been sealed off. The building had not been evacuated but four employees had been taken to hospital for medical checks. The envelope was addressed simply to the National Assembly, rather than to a specific individual, the official said. Three public buildings in Paris and the headquarters just outside the French capital of the French Space Agency and Arianespace, the firm that launches Ariane rockets, were evacuated on Monday after receiving suspect envelopes. Health Minister Bernard Kouchner said on Tuesday all initial tests on the packets received had proven negative. France has registered around 40 anthrax alerts but still no case has been confirmed. Two restaurant owners in south-east France appeared in court on Thursday charged with "premeditated violence" after they allegedly sent a letter containing flour to their local mayor, prompting an anthrax scare. Under French law threats and false alerts are considered a violent act. The pair could face three years in prison and a hefty fine if found guilty. Kouchner has warned that France would take steps to prosecute hoaxers on charges of disrupting public order. ------------------------ Yahoo!
