"The Palestinian Authority has discovered Israeli plans to assassinate President Yasser Arafat and other Palestinian leaders," Nabil Abu Rudeina told Agence France Presse. He stated that the aim of this plan was to "destroy the Palestinian Authority and the peace process." Abu Rudeina stated that the PA has asked the United States and the international community to urgently make a move to stop this plan and warned the Israelis "not to play with fire." Abu Rudeina did not provide any further details of the plans. Israeli Finance Minister Silvan Shalom, and member of Ariel Sharon's extremist right-wing Likud party stated on Israeli public radio yesterday that the Israeli government should kick Arafat out of the Palestinian territories once and for all.
