U.S. special force's operation in Afghanistan not successful - Tajik
military sources

DUSHANBE. Oct 21 (Interfax) - The Tajik Defense Ministry has
confirmed that the United States' first military ground operation against
the Taliban was carried out outside Kandahar on Saturday.
A highly-placed Tajik military official said that the U.S. special
force's attack did not bring results. Nor did it influence the general
military-political situation in Afghanistan, he said.
He said the U.S. special force had been airlifted from Pakistani
airports in Pans and Jacobabad.
More than 100 special troops who landed from helicopters in
Kandahar's western outskirts near Mt. Babashakhi, found themselves in
an area densely controlled by the Taliban, and left the area of hostilities
by helicopters. The main goal of the operation - to carry out subversive
acts on a camouflaged airfield - was not fulfilled, the source said. [TJ
