Symetric key: Ke=Kd
- Anyone with a key can forge or read any message
Symetric transform: Te=Td
Public key:
- possession of one key does not yield use of other key
- Authentication: Release Kd
- Secrecy: Release Ke
- Both: (Ke and Kd work)
- for encryption, for authentication
