About a thousand riot police on Friday put themselves between the embassy gates and about 1,500 protesters, who used a flatbed truck to close off traffic on a boulevard in front of the mission and chanted "Down with Imperialism" and "Justice Not War." "The destruction of the World Trade Center and the Pentagon showed to the world that the US, after all, is vulnerable to such attacks," the protesters said in leaflets handed out at the rally. Despite the angry rhetoric, the protest was good-natured with the assembled police answering the protesters by chanting: "Go Home". A tiny group of Filipino Muslims clad in traditional dress joined the demonstration. They carried a single poster depicting an Afghan woman cowering under a stream of bomber aircraft. US and British forces began air strikes against Afghanistan 13 days ago after the Taliban government refused to hand over Saudi-born dissident Osama bin Laden who is believed responsible for last month's terrorist attacks in the United States. ------------------------ Yahoo!
